GRAND AWARDS 2017
Japanese sake "Koi"
The Japanese sake "Koi" (錦鯉 Nishikigoi in Japanese) is a celebration of culture and heritage, the vibrant red patterns on the white bottle clearly reminiscent of the koi fish itself. This is further enhanced by the form of the outer box as the image of the majestic koi emerges from within. From Imayotsukasa Sake Brewery and BULLET Inc., each piece of packaging is filled with stories and the people behind the processes.
JUDGE COMMENT HIGHLIGHTS:
The laying of simple, strong graphic pattern on the bottle and the form of the box makes this design so full of movement and liveliness. It’s minimalist, sophisticated, functional and visually appealing all together. This powerfully attractive and convincing design is no doubt my number one of the year, a winner in all aspects.
This packaging design is very outstanding & remarkable. It can be represented to Japan & awesome ornamental fish as brand identity for Japan sake " KOI"
Traditional Japanese aesthetics; the beauty of nature; the liveliness of celebrations ― the various contexts surrounding the Japanese sake are exquisitely sublimated by the metaphor of the Nishikigoi.
In traditional Japanese words, beauty is expressed by 「匂う」(“niou," to smell). It certainly is ― a design that 「匂い立つ」("nioi tatsu,” a smell that envelops).
As production for Japanese sake is decreasing, it is a design that I increasingly wish to spread to the world to cheer up the industry.
Wonderfully simple and clever concept with a strong execution.
