I thought it would be boring to design the packaging as it is, as there are many towel packagings in the world. I wanted to make the product standout: highlighting the towels’ particular materials and textures, and make it easier for consumers to pick up.

Inspired by Furusato’s kindergarten experience of learning how to fold a flower using tissue paper, I tried to apply to same concept using towel. Unfortunately, the design was unstable and the cost was high; I had to abandon the idea. With a number trials and errors, we decided to go forward with a dress pleats / drapery design as it was easier to make at a lower cost.

With the image of a beautiful lovely women, we followed (what we call in fashion) a “fit and flare” silhouette. This design highlights the bountiful / rich texture of the towel. The waistband with the dot patterns is an image of the foam or bubbles created while washing your body.

The ballerina-like legs is not just a design but serves as an additional function for display: you can hang or stand the product. The bag on the waist was designed with the image of the celebrated kelly handbag. I would like someone classic and fabulous to pick up this thoughtful and playful product. I would also like for it to be given as a gift.
