‘Oyster Stout Trio’ by UGLY HALF BEER is an experimental barrel-aged beer series brewed with locally harvested oysters in Chiayi, Taiwan.

To honour the craft of Mother Nature that went into the making of this craft beer, the design challenge was: How can we create a label that reflects the mystery of the ocean and the humility of the oyster?

The design inspiration stemmed from the sensory intricacy of oyster. Through the shell-silhouetted cut-out, the metallic label captures the radiant mineral iridescence, which humbly hides away inside the mollusc shells. For the pattern, it echoes the briny tidal wave in motion which nurtures oysters at the oyster farm. Layers of the wave are also seemingly reminiscent of the spiky shell layers that calcium carbonate liberally and beautifully constructs.

Ultimately, the design culminated as labels that contain mysterious layers of Mother Nature in it, each allowing us to both zoom-in to flow with the ocean and zoom-out to experience its expansiveness at the same time.
